 SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

MARBLEHEAD, MA PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Marblehead School Committee invites forward-thinking, highly skilled candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools. 

The Town of Marblehead is located on the North Shore of Massachusetts along Massachusetts Bay and Salem Harbor. This picturesque seacoast suburban community of approximately 20,000 residents is conveniently located between Boston and Cape Ann.

Marblehead is a high-performing, top-tier district, centering on academic achievement, social-emotional learning and personal growth, with a focus on inclusion for special education. Rigorous academics and assessment are priorities, along with meeting the needs of each child through specialized programs including ELL and a wide variety of special needs programs offered for our diverse populations. There is a deep commitment by all faculty and staff to supporting students in achieving their greatest potential. The Marblehead district has been a proud participating district in the METCO program for over 50 years. Marblehead’s FY 2020 budget is $40 million.

The Marblehead Public Schools educates approximately 3,200 students in six public schools PreK through Grade 12. The district is currently in the final stages of a district-wide Facilities Master Plan with the design of a 450 student K-3 elementary school. Construction is to begin in Spring 2020.

The next Superintendent of the Marblehead Public Schools must have student achievement as a primary focus.  The ability to successfully work with local government officials and a capacity to collaborate with all stakeholders is essential. Qualified candidates must have successful public school administrative experience combined with a background in teaching. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, experience recruiting and building an administrative team and a strong understanding of school finance and budgets. An advanced graduate degree is preferred and a Master’s Degree is required.  A Massachusetts Superintendent license or eligibility for license is necessary. The Marblehead School District is prepared to provide a multi-year contract with a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Review of applications will begin on November 22, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. The expected start date for the new superintendent is on or before July 1, 2020.
