Linking Instruction Nurturing Knowledge (LINK) Club is an ACPS afterschool program funded by the U.S.      Department of Education 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC). LINK Club serves ACPS disadvantaged students and their families at various schools and community sites in Alexandria. LINK Club is designed to prepare participating students for the challenges and opportunities of today and tomorrow by addressing their comprehensive needs through a whole-child approach. LINK Club provides outcome-based, year-round academic support, project-based enrichment and family engagement opportunities to the participating students. 

 

LINK Club teachers will provide academic support in core subject areas as well as student-centered, project-based learning. Applicants should be available to work Monday-Thursday for one hour at the end of the school day. ACPS is looking for middle school teachers to serve Jefferson Houston middle school students at Jefferson Houston from 3:00 to 4:00pm. We are also looking for middle and high school teachers to serve middle school students from George Washington Middle School and T.C. Williams High School at Community Lodgings located in Arlandria neighborhood (22305) from 5:00-6:00pm.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in Secondary Education, or eligibility to obtain one.
  •  Preferred Experience: 
    • Experience working with diverse, immigrant, EL and/or economically disadvantaged students
    • Experience with Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) practices
    • Knowledge of project-based learning models

Essential Functions:

  • Provide small group home-work help and remediation services
  • Organize specific grade-level project-based learning activities
  • Infuse technology with project based learning activities to build knowledge and enhance creative expression
  • Teach skills and activities that transfer into continuous learning outside of the afterschool program
  • Treat children with dignity and respect, and meet the needs of individual children with awareness of their interests, special talents and needs, cultural background, and individual learning styles
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and or professional developments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or required to comply with 21st CCLC grant.
