Academy and Systems Manager (Tier C)

Location: Charlestown HS, Charlestown MA

General Description and Goals
Charlestown High School is seeking to hire a talented and dedicated staff member to join our team.The Academy and Systems Manager will manage all aspects of the operations and enhance the school's student support through the creation of efficient protocols and predictable referral systems. A successful candidate will possess supervisory experience and will have a proven track record of understanding and working successfully with urban adolescents facing academic and personal challenges.


I. Academic Support
  • Assists SLC Leader with school improvement within the SLC, including planning and facilitating SLC CPT meetings.
  • Provides instructional coaching and feedback to SLC teachers and ensures instructional quality in the classroom via curriculum review, classroom observations, and providing feedback to teachers
  • Leads initiatives to improve student attendance and academic performance.
  • Communicates with parents and community members both proactively and responsively to respond to student needs
  • Develops systems for monitoring students' academic progress in SLC, including working with the registrar to assist with data tracking (For example, track data using aggregated performance data, EWI trackers, etc.).
II. Operations
  • Monitors and secures SLC area for student safety
  • Supports student scheduling process during the school year, including new student intake and orientation.
  • Collaborates with Testing Coordinator on MCAS and other testing schedules, including district exams, Access, district final exams, etc.
III. School and SLC Climate
  • Supports student support team to monitor systems for monitoring student support, including counseling, mediation, and communicating with outside agencies/resources.
  • Assists student support team and SLC guidance counselors to identify and support at-risk students and to provide a supportive environment for all students
  • Develops systems to prevent disciplinary/ safety problems; and makes decisions and implements solutions regarding serious or ongoing disciplinary infractions.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and assists SLC community-building activities such as field trips, celebrations, assemblies, open houses, etc.
  • Supports the mission, vision and values of Charlestown High School.
  • Fosters an environment and culture which promotes respect, responsibility and trust.
IV. Outreach
  • Communicates with parents and community members both proactively and responsively to respond to student needs.
  • Explores and promotes partnerships with community organizations, such as university partnerships for early college awareness and for curriculum development
V. School Leadership
  • Works with the Headmaster and Leadership Team to help devise and accomplish school mission
  • Participates in Instructional Learning Team weekly after school meetings on school-wide operations and school improvement, and communicates and implements decisions in the SLC
  • Participates in and contributes to the Leadership Team and School Improvement Committee.
  • Assists with the hiring process
  • Additional assignments and duties per the Headmaster

Qualifications
Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in student support and working in an urban setting
  • Strong commitment to CHS mission, values, and educational model
  • Desire to be part of a multilingual community and to meet the challenges this poses
  • Working in urban and diverse school environments
  • Ability to collaborate, work well under pressure, and maintain a sense of humor and humility
  • Impeccable ethics
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with diverse students, faculty, partners, and families
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive and lead in a multicultural atmosphere where respect and ethical behavior are pervasive
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • City of Boston residency
  • U.S. citizenship

Preferred:
  • 5 years or more as an urban student support provider and minimum of 3 years as a student support manager


TERMS:
Managerial Tier C

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement as well as U.S. citizenship.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
