QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree

National coaching or athletic administration certification (preferred)

CPR/First Aid Certification

Thorough understanding of PIAA and SDoL eligibility standards

Thorough understanding of pedagogy, as it relates to academic and athletic instruction

Adept at public speaking

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to communicate effectively with students, coaches, parents, faculty members and administrators

Ability to use basic computer programs to create documents, reports, and presentations.

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director/Building Principal

SUPERVISES: Middle School Coaches and Game Help

JOB GOAL: To facilitate the functions which administer a productive athletic program in a middle school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Communicate information regarding the building athletic program to the district athletic director and building principal

Serve as a liaison between the athletic department and the building principal

Serve as a liaison between the athletic department and the middle school coaches

Attend faculty manager meetings with the district athletic director

Be knowledgeable of all PIAA regulations regarding middle school athletics

Be knowledgeable of all SDoL policies regarding athletics

Communicate with facilities management regarding field preparation

Assist the building principal in the supervision and evaluation (including assessments of strengths and weaknesses) of the building athletic coaches

Assist in scheduling building facilities to provide equal access for all sports teams to conduct practices and workouts

Distribute athletic schedules to building personnel, athletes, parents and interested community members

Promote athletic teams to students, staff, parents, and community members

Create eligibility lists and distribute to building personnel, competing schools and Lancaster-Lebanon League officials

Facilitate academic eligibility checks and notify coaches and teachers of academically ineligible student-athletes

Complete appropriate paperwork and request checks for officials and game personnel

Assist coaches in the completion of transportation schedules for away athletic contests

Secure appropriate game personnel (i.e. timers and scorekeepers) for events

In the event of inclement weather, work with the building principal, coaches, SDoL grounds personnel, and the district athletic director to determine if an event should be rescheduled

When needed, communicate to affected coaches and game personnel any postponed events

Participate in interviews for building coaching positions

Work with the building custodial staff to set-up for competitions

Submit requests for the use and scheduling of building facilities for practices

Respond appropriately to athletic inquiries from the press and community

Coordinate athletic affiliations among booster clubs, cheerleaders, and other athletic teams

Facilitate the resolution of concerns and issues related to the building athletic program

Be knowledgeable of coaches' s and duties

Meet with each coach prior to the start of the season to address the needs of the coach, paperwork timelines, and other organizational needs

Be responsible for arranging the end-of-the-season evaluation with the building principal

Meet with each coach following the season to complete the coach's evaluation, collect the inventory and purchasing requests, and discuss programmatic needs

Submit the end-of-the-season reports from each coach to the principal and district athletic director

Assist the coaches in recruiting students throughout the year

Assist the coaches in communication of physical and recertification dates to the students

Post and publicize Lancaster-Lebanon League spectator rules

Facilitate communication between coaches and building disciplinarian

Supervise the sending and receiving of equipment for reconditioning

Work with other faculty managers in joint athletic programs

TERMS OF CONTRACT: Hours indicated in SDoL/LEA contract

EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated per the Athletic Handbook
