QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in social work, sociology, community relations, counseling, education, or a related field

Experience in education, human services or related field; experience in secondary education or post-secondary education preferred

Knowledge of district programs and related programs in the broader community

Knowledge of the process and preparation for college admission and student persistence in college

Ability to work with a variety of colleges, universities, businesses, and community agencies and to coordinate project activities

Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to use these skills to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals throughout the community; Ability to work collaboratively with the college and career readiness team

Excellent organization skills; proven ability to collect and analyze data and complete reports

High degree of flexibility and tolerance; strong interpersonal skills

Such alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Must be able to work a flexible schedule

Proficiency in verbal and written Spanish preferred

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of College and Career Services

SUPERVISES: No direct reports

JOB GOAL: The College and Career Specialist will coordinate the implementation and delivery of college and career readiness services to 9-12th grade students and parents, with the goal of increasing student readiness for, and success in, college, military, or the workforce after graduation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Collaborate with school-based and district staff to plan all college and career program activities

Responsible for timely implementation of all college and career activities

Serve as lead coordinator on some college and career events, and support other College and Career Specialist for others

Responsible for sharing college and career readiness information with all students and parents

Evaluate college and career programs' effectiveness, efficiency, and equity. Utilize analysis for decision making on program improvements and changes.

Provide academic and college and career recommendations to guide 9-12th grade students and parents in supporting their children to attend college. This work is done in collaboration with counselors, administrators, and other key stakeholders.

Provides workshops and small group activities to increase financial literacy, college access, financial aid, college fit, educational transitions, and developing non-cognitive skills for success

Contacts parents when students demonstrate various risk factors (poor attendance, failing grades, etc.)

Shares college readiness and preparation resources with students and parents

Coordinates college trips, including local, regional, overnight, and out-of-state

Organizes family events to recognize students' academic and college preparation achievements

Track student, parent, and teacher participation in program activities

Record all expenditures and notify supervisor of budget deviations

Maintain database of program contracts, including colleges, universities, community agencies and individual volunteers

Plan and schedule regular meetings and events

Produce and distribute program publications

Inform local media of events; prepare press releases to gain media coverage of program activities

Collaborate with community partners to deliver services

Supervise interns or volunteers as needed

Speak publicly about college and career readiness work as needed

Perform other related tasks as assigned

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

2. Participate in professional development opportunities for professional growth and continuous improvement

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full year. Salary to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated in accordance with the Compensation and Performance Evaluation Plan for School and District Leaders.
