QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed Professional Nurse in PA.
Bachelor's Degree (B.S.N. preferred).
PA Certification as Education Specialist (Certified School Nurse).
Valid CPR/First Aid Certification, valid CPR Instructor.
Background/experience in pediatric nursing, community health nursing and/or critical care nursing preferred.
Ability to communicate and work with children, families and staff in nonjudgmental manner.
Other qualifications to the above that the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.
REPORTS TO: Coordinator for Special Education
SUPERVISES: Nurses under direction of Coordinator for Special Education
JOB GOAL: To develop and implement the District's mandated and modified health services program consistent with the objectives and resources of the District and PA Department of Education and Health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain/implement comprehensive school health program in the school, following guidelines of PA School Code, PA Departments of Education and Health, and the School District of Lancaster.
Apply appropriate nursing theory as basis for decision-making in school setting.
Ensure accurate maintenance of comprehensive school health records for students as well as daily health room activity.
Compile and summarize data required for state and local health services reports.
Advocate for students' and their families' wellness/health-related needs.
Assist with school-wide budget development for school health program.
Order supplies district-wide.
Evaluate staffing needs: assess school nurse / student ratio; select and help recommend applicants for employment; assign health services staff according to program needs; assist administrative services with scheduling health services substitutes.
Assist administration/ principals in assessing performance of health services staff
Provide required health services in District's alternative schools as well as parochial and private schools
Serve as intermediary between District and school based health centers.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Collaborate with school administration and other school staff in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating school health programs and activities.
Promote good health and safety practices within and outside of the school building.
Help Coordinator of Special Education to coordinate with community-based agencies to develop service plans and ensure non-duplication of services.
Serve as resource person for health education classes/health education curriculum development.
Plan in-service activities for Medical and Dental staff.

EVALUATION: Evaluation will be determined according to the District's Professional Evaluation Plan – Observation/Supervision/Evaluation Plan.
