Title: Specialist I, Communications-Internal & External

Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist I for Internal and External works collaboratively with the FCS Communications Department's Communications Coordinator and Communications Manager to support communication messaging to internal and external audiences and develop other content that effectively communicates FCS District news and initiatives and aligns with the District's vision, mission, and Strategic Plan. The incumbent in this position will support District initiatives, District-wide programs, communication plans and communication projects which may include social media, basic design support and planning. Additionally, the Specialist I, Communications-Internal and External will provide excellent customer service, build strong relationships and work to encourage a positive and supportive culture that is consistent with the values of the school district.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communicates effectively with a variety of school district audiences, including staff, parents, school governance councils, students and other stakeholders to provide accurate, consistent and timely information about FCS accomplishments, programs, initiatives, key leadership decisions, etc.Assists with District internal and external stakeholder groups to gather information, write emails and other communication; May take photographs for use on social media and may support a social media marketing planAssists with organizational planning and project management for District-wide programs; Supports District-wide initiatives including space reservations, setup, breakdown, and managing invitations and responses; Provides support to the Communications Department during special events and other activitiesCreates and maintains a database of external key communicators who serve as liaisons for sharing critical District news and information; Supports relationship-building with school and District staff, parents, school governance councils, partners, and other stakeholdersWorks collaboratively with other Communications staff to prepare newsletters, marketing materials, brochures, scripts and collateral materials that align with the District's strategic plan and promote District news, events and accomplishmentsSupports eFlyer distribution process through learning and understanding the multi-media platforms used by the District (such as Blackboard, Outlook, etc.), and ensures timely dissemination of internal and external messagesOrganizes and maintains Communications Department electronic files, archived messaging, and photographsRequires travel to various locations throughout the DistrictPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administratorPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Education and Experience:
Education:
  • High School diploma or GED requiredBachelor's Degree preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field required3 - 5 years related experience preferred

Certification:
  • None RequiredMust be willing to acquire additional training as directed by manager

Minimum Qualification:
  • Knowledge of K-12 education environment helpfulStrong writing skills are a necessity as well as attention to detailProficiency in Adobe InDesign or other desktop publishing software, Adobe PhotoShop, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel preferredDemonstrated knowledge of social media (Twitter and Facebook preferred)Demonstrated ability to work with personal and confidential informationMust be able to collaborate effectively with District and school personnel, the public, and work with diverse groups of peopleMust be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilitiesAbility to work independently or as a team memberExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Salary Information:
Salary Range for 2019-2020
  • $41,363 - $48,817


Step placement credit may be granted for up to a maximum of 8 years (Step 9) of prior verifiable experience. Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Non-Teaching Salary Schedule A-235, Professional Scale, Step 1 - Step 9.
