AUSL Program Manager / School Based Coach Position
The Program Manager is a 52 week employee of CPS and function in the capacity as a School Based
Coach (SBC) within in the AUSL network of schools. The SBC may serve at multiple schools and
expected to provide outstanding, individualized support and professional development around
classroom management and standards-based instruction. The SBC will work consistently with a
caseload of teachers as well as with school leadership in order to dramatically accelerate student
learning.
The SBC will deepen the teachers' understanding of content knowledge, as well as, instructional
delivery and design. SBC's will fulfill these duties as assigned by the principal supported by the AUSL
Director of Coaching.
The SBC will also help develop and deliver network wide professional development that deepens
content knowledge in AUSL school(s). All candidates must possess a deep commitment to
educational change and reform for the children of our network schools.
School Responsibilities
The SBC will report to the principal(s). In partnership with the AUSL Director of Coaching, all SBC
coaches will be on-boarded by his or her respective principal(s). SBC responsibilities may include the
following:
❏ Manage teacher caseloads ❏ Set a schedule for additional work items
❏ Facilitate content clusters with follow-up support
❏ Provide professional development to staff
❏ Provide real-time classroom coaching in behavior/classroom management and CCSS-aligned
instruction
❏ Use a repertoire of strategies for adult learners including real-time, side-by-side classroom
coaching, co-planning and co-teaching of lessons, modeling of best practice strategies, analysis of
student work, and classroom observation & feedback to improve teacher practices
Network Responsibilities
The SBC will work closely with the AUSL Director of Coaching to achieve network goals and to
advance teacher effectiveness in accelerating student achievement. SBC responsibilities may include
the following:
❏ Attend bi-weekly professional development provided by AUSL Director of Coaching
❏ Receive regular on-site support by AUSL Director of Coaching throughout the school year such as:
learning walks, classroom visits, tool calibration, resource development, etc.
❏ Support and provide professional development for AUSL network such as: New Teacher
Orientation, and Principal Collaboratives, etc.
❏ Support the implementation of the engage AUSL curriculum through:
Talent Office - 125 South Clark Street, 2 nd Floor - Chicago, IL 60603
❏ Regular instructional learning walks with principal and network leaders in order to build resource
capacity among teachers
❏ Collaborate with network leadership and teacher leaders to monitor teacher performance goals and
coach teachers as necessary to meet those goals
❏ Demonstrate commitment to increasing student achievement with data-driven instruction by
collaborating with and supporting teachers and administrators
Qualifications
❏ Master's degree in an education-related field preferred; current IL teaching certificate
❏ Experience as a successful and innovative teacher and/or teacher coach. Minimum 3-5 years of
successful elementary classroom teaching experience - preferably experience teaching CCSS
standards
❏ Extensive experience in urban educational settings
❏ Extensive knowledge of Common Core Standards and deep understanding and familiarity with the
Content Shifts and the Standards
❏ Skills and prior experience coaching or mentoring adult learners
❏ Basic MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google Apps, Gmail and video technology
(iPads) to monitor coaching practices and teacher growth. ❏ Excellent time-management,
organization, and interpersonal skills
❏ Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and teamwork skills in working with a diverse group of school
and network-based stakeholders
❏ Strong written and oral communication skills
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), full year position as a Program Manager under CPS contract. All
CPS employees are expected to live in Chicago and are required to fulfill CPS residency
requirements.
