Location: Glacier Valley Elementary School
Hourly Position: 19.75 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the school principal and following the requirements of a grant-funded project, the primary role of this position will be to help students cope with personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance, behavior and socialization. Through one-on-one, classroom or school-wide sessions, this position will address issues relevant to the student population, such as school attendance, trauma related incident, bullying etc. When appropriate or necessary, this position may provide information for outside support services or agencies to help students deal with economic, emotional or physical challenges. These advocates/specialists sometimes focus on particular groups of students, such as those with disabilities or at-risk groups. This position will facilitate communications with parents, teachers and administrator(s) to provide a full view of the issues facing an individual student, group or school.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, education, child psychology or related field.
- Valid Alaska driver's license.
- Must demonstrate knowledge/experience of the effects of trauma and poverty on children currently experiencing trauma.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding child welfare in school.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree in social work, counseling, education or related field.
- Professional licensure in social work, counseling or related field.
- Experience in child advocacy and parent outreach in public schools.
