SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

GRANBY, CONNECTICUT

 

The Town of Granby was incorporated in 1786 from Simsbury. It covers 40.7 square miles on Connecticut's north central border with Massachusetts. Primarily a rural residential community, Granby is home for many professionals who work in Greater Hartford's financial and insurance corporate headquarters and industries. Located 13.6 miles north of Hartford, the town is bordered on the east by the towns of Suffield and East Granby, on the south by Simsbury and Canton, and to the west by the towns of Barkhamsted and Hartland. Granby's estimated population is 11,000.

 

Granby Public Schools is a high-quality, 21st Century school system preparing students for participation in a global society. The Granby Public Schools provide for the educational needs of approximately 1,874 students in Grades PK-12. There are four schools in the district: Kelly Lane Primary School (PK-2), Wells Road Intermediate School (3-5), Granby Memorial Middle School (6-8), and Granby Memorial High School (9-12).

The new superintendent will have a successful leadership background that demonstrates genuine commitment to high standards of achievement for all students. Keen business acumen and the ability to work well with community leaders and the general public are prerequisites for the position. Excellent communication, openness and honesty and a strong work ethic are all essential qualities for the new superintendent. Candidates with proven accomplishment as superintendents and those who have demonstrated high promise as a superintendent through other senior leadership positions are encouraged to apply. Connecticut certification (endorsement 093), or evidence of eligibility for such, is required. The Granby Board of Education will offer a compensation package that is both commensurate with the candidate’s experience/credentials and is comparable to similar districts in the region.

The application deadline is September 11, 2019. Applications received after the deadline may be considered at the discretion of the Board. The anticipated start date for the new superintendent is on or before January 1, 2020.
