ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

The Facilities Department is responsible for maintaining, servicing and improving the Jeffco Public Schools' 12 million square feet of schools and support buildings, valued at nearly $2.75 billion on 3,100 acres of land. The Facilities Department includes more than 700 employees in Building Maintenance and Site Maintenance, Construction Management, Custodial Services, Environmental Services, Energy Management, Facilities Service Desk, and Planning & Property. Overall Duties include boundaries, long-range facility planning, enrollment projections, energy and utility management, capital and bond-funded improvements, custodial services, facilities assessments, facilities maintenance, hazardous material management, landscape and paving, property management, snow removal, water and wastewater management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY: Perform skilled electronics duties relating to the maintenance, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and preventative/planned maintenance of electronics circuit boards and systems. Perform minor maintenance duties in secondary trades. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and secure learning environment for students, staff, and the public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain, repair, install, and troubleshoot electronic systems, such as intercoms, paging systems, master clocks, fire alarms, security systems, score boards, dimmer systems and audio and video equipment.

Interpret schematics, blueprints, sketches, and specifications.

Computer and networking skills preferred.

Repair circuit board level electronic systems.

Assist in minor maintenance activities utilizing secondary skills, as required.

Respond to emergencies after normal working hours.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required, plus post secondary courses in computers, electrical and electronics, equivalent to up to one year of college. Must have NICET 2 within two years of hire date.

EXPERIENCE: 4 years' experience in institutional, commercial, or industrial maintenance, and experience in secondary trades related to facility maintenance.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Basic knowledge of AC and DC solid state circuits, as well as basic knowledge of Fire Alarms, Security and Intercoms. Operating knowledge of multi-meters and oscilloscope. Intermediate computer operating skills. Must pass District written knowledge test of applicable skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Colorado driver's license. Electrical journeyman license or an Electronic degree preferred.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Act as a technical resource for individuals across the District, including work team, school building staff, and project design/construction staff.

CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons in same work unit/building for routine internal matters, and with persons outside department/building to provide a service. Weekly contact with vendors/suppliers to furnish/obtain information, and with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve problems and negotiate matters.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: High exposure to self to bruises and cuts due to equipment and materials. Medium exposure to self to heat burns due to exposure to hot water and solder. Low exposure to self to fractured bones due to falling, hernia due to lifting heavy equipment and machinery, disease due to working around asbestos, loss of limb due to working around machinery, loss of sight due to solder, disfigurement due to machinery/equipment, and fatality due to falling from ladder or vehicle accidents. Also, duties of this job may impact the safety of others if precautions are not taken when working where others are present and if work is done poorly and does not meet required specifications or codes for safety.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and evaluate. The employee is frequently required to compare, communicate, use interpersonal skills, and compile. The employee is occasionally required to copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, and negotiate.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by group leader. This position requires application of technical knowledge to repair or replace equipment, determine cost effectiveness, prioritize repairs, and determine impact decisions have on building occupants. Work is guided by District codes and specifications. Decision making requires collaboration with other electrical technicians, group leaders, Building Engineers, principals, Supervisors, and Construction Management personnel. Errors in decision making could lead to uncomfortable, unsafe, and unhealthy learning environments; increased energy costs; and liability issues. Supervisor is involved only in major decisions.

DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Duties require cross-training in electrical wiring and relevant codes. Must be cross-trained and have experience in a minimum of two secondary trades outside of the electronics field. Duties and actions impact individuals across the District.
