Adult and Career Education Hourly Teacher's Rate Responsible to Adult and Career Education Administrator POSITION: ESL Family Literacy Teacher, Multilevel ESL LOCATION: OUSD K-12 school, TBA WORK PERIOD: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m: Instruction Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Professional Learning Community (PLC) 2 hours/week to be arranged: school site instructional collaboration FOR YEAR: 2021-22 DESCRIPTION: The Family Literacy Teacher will prepare and provide multilevel ESL academic and literacy instruction to parents at an OUSD K-12 school, TBA. Parents will become empowered to increase their support and advocacy of their children's academic progress, and to develop family engagement and leadership skills to increase their effective participation in full service community schools. The Family Literacy Teacher will collaborate with CCPA to integrate K-12 curriculum and to implement the national Family Literacy model, including Parent and Child Together (PACT) time. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide rigorous instruction to develop parents' receptive English-language skills of listening and reading comprehension, and their productive English-language skills of speaking and writing. Implement the ESL Family Literacy core curriculum, in alignment with the ESL Model Standards and EL Civics. Provide ESL instruction within the Family Literacy model, including Parent and Child Together (PACT) time. Incorporate instructional technology in daily instruction. Provide a welcoming and culturally sensitive learning environment for parents; provide differentiated, learner-centered, interactive learning activities. Collaborate with the assigned school to integrate Family Literacy and school curriculum. Problem-solve immediate instructional and logistical issues, with guidance and support from program staff. ACCOUNTABILITY: Document adult learner progress, including CASAS testing, EL Civics Assessment, and program impact data. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid non-emergency California teaching credential authorizing instruction to adults in the subject area (community college credential not acceptable.) Demonstrated knowledge and teaching experience with adult English language learners of different levels of proficiency. Ability to creatively meet the challenges presented by a multi-level ESL class, including literacy level ESL, limited formal schooling and limited literacy in native language. Demonstrated use of course planning, student assessment and evaluation, monitoring student progress on the State Department of Education's Model Standards of Adult Education Programs. Demonstrated ability to develop and present lessons that include a variety of interactive communicative activities, and integrates instructional technology. Demonstrated ability to build participation in an adult ESL class, and maintain learner participation until goals and outcomes are achieved. Essential for applicant to be nurturing and skillful in inspiring learner confidence. Demonstrated ability to be accurate and timely in submitting required documentation to the adult school office. Ability to work with teachers, staff, and the administration in a collaborative, productive, and supportive manner. Ability to work independently off-site and to problem solve.
