GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The purpose of the job is to serve in an educator capacity in the instruction and guidance of students enrolled in various academic courses within the appropriate grade or academic level. Employees in this job classification are responsible for adhering to established curriculum standards for the particular course delivered, and for complying with established instructional guidelines as established by the School District and educational systems appropriate to the course. Work includes course delivery, administration of tests (or equivalent course criteria), and the tabulation and submission of students' final course grades. Incumbents perform essential functions as outlined herein according to the specific course or discipline of assignment. Position is distinguished from that of the Teacher by additional instructional leadership and organizational responsibilities during and after the regular school calendar. Performs related work as directed.

Bachelor's Degree in Education, the academic discipline being delivered, or related field; supplemented by three (3) to four (4) years responsible of distinguished in an instructional capacity within a similar education institution; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain current Virginia Teaching Certification, with an endorsement in Gifted Education.

- Provides professional instruction and teaching to a diverse population of students as appropriate to the specified course or discipline and academic level, e.g., gifted and academically advanced students, and ensures all appropriate measures are in effect to meet the needs of students.
- Administers tests and conducts evaluation and grading as applicable to the students' specific assignments.
- Calculates student scores and grades and submits students' final class/course grade(s).
- Identifies and determines appropriate course of action necessary for the resolution of students' academic issues and concerns.
- Adheres to established standards regarding curriculum delivery and requirements as established by the School District and applicable educational systems appropriate to the specified course of discipline.
- Works with the Director of Gifted and Exceptional Education Instructional Programs, Learning and Accountability to manage gifted education programming to promote and facilitate a successful learning environment and the accomplishment of School Board schedules, goals and objectives; develops, evaluates and implements policies and procedures, and curricular development.
- Conducts research, procedural evaluations to enhance academic structure; formulates and implements recommendations for improvements and/or modifications in gifted education.
- Establishes district procedures and guidelines for informal/formal identification, diagnosis of strengths, gifted behaviors, and talents matched to multiple services delivery options.
- Develops, scores/ norms and analyzes required assessments regarding student data for placement in gifted educational programs.
- Serves as the liaison between the district, state and the national Research Center for Gifted and Talented.
- Establishes district procedures and assists schools in implementation of individualized annual Gifted and Talent Student Services Plans including parental input and the monitoring and reporting of student progress each semester.
- Assist the Director of Teaching and Learning with planning and administering the gifted education budget including state/national grants.
- Evaluates all aspects of the gifted education program on an annual basis and makes recommendations for upgrading gifted and talented services.
- Completed and submits the district annual Gifted Plan and the Gifted Performance Report to the state.
- Assists administration in developing division curriculum guides, lesson plans; implementing staff development initiatives, and disaggregating and analyzing data; provides guidance to other teaching staff in various curricular or behavioral matters.
- Maintains instructional materials inventory for the gifted program.
- Establishes procedures to obtain parental permission prior to the administration of individual tests for initial screening and reevaluation of gifted students.
- Complies with grievance procedures to resolve a concern regarding the selection/identification and appropriate and adequate provision of gifted services.
- Maintains district, school and student confidential records.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability to understand, follow and instruct written and oral instructions.
- Ability to effectively teach/supervise a group comprised of students engaged in carrying out classroom activities/functions.
- Knowledge of business English and spelling; knowledge of basic math.
- Considerable knowledge of academic discipline being delivered.
- Skill in clearly communicating information both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
- Ability to perform routine typing and basic computer operations, i.e., data entry, word processing and records retrieval.
- Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications; ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with departmental personnel, instructors and students.
- Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion.
- Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and stand for long periods of time; walk; lift up to 25pounds.
- Ability to work flexible hours necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
- Thorough knowledge of basic School District work policies and guidelines; knowledge of departmental practices and procedures.
