    Building Principal or District Level Administrator

    FLSA DESIGNATION:
    10 months (school year). 2 hours per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon per assigned school). $13.98/hour. Note: This is a part time, non-exempt, union position with no medical, dental or life insurance. This position is covered by the School Crossing Guard bargaining agreement. This is a grant-funded position that exists as long as funds are available.

    PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION

    This class is accountable for providing for the safety and welfare of students in transit to and/or from school; and communicating observations and/or incidents that may impact the general well-being of students. The work involves traffic control, supervising the children in crossing streets and roads and maintaining control of children while waiting at school bus stops, all with the emphasis on safety.

    PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Education:
  • High School Diploma or a general education development (GED) certificate.

  • General Experience:
  • One (1) year of full-time employment or equivalent work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed.

    C. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.

    D. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Incumbents in this class are expected to be trained in and be current in all aspects of the program. CPR/First Aid Certificate may be required.

    PART IV - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities;
  • Assists students, parents, seniors, etc. for the purpose of providing safe access to and from school;
  • Communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding and the potential consequences of violation;
  • Controls children using the crossing to assure that they conform to traffic regulations;
  • Controls vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely;
  • Intervenes in potential emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing injury to involved parties;
  • Maintains equipment (e.g. stop sign, vests, street signs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of required items;
  • May place school sentinel signs in the roadway at designated points near crossing and must/shall remove them before going off duty;
  • Monitors students for the purpose of ensuring release to authorized parties in conformance with state and/or school administrative policies;
  • Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals, and reports infractions to appropriate authorities;
  • Reports observations and/or incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information for follow up by appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel;
  • Reports unsafe behavior of children to school officials;
  • Performs other related duties as required.
