GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the, COVID-19 Testing Coordinator, this position is responsible for assisting with the facilitation of a successful school testing program. The position will respond to educators' needs with clinical expertise and serve as a resource for school and division officials as they navigate the needs of their communities regarding COVID-19.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • At the school division or school level, communicate accurate, credible, actionable, and timely public health information related to all aspects of COVID-19, particularly as they relate to the testing program.
  • Assist the school and division leaders in making informed decisions related to COVID-19 testing, mitigation, and containment.
  • Report needs for additional clinical resources (e.g., PPE materials) to division leaders, the local emergency management office, and/or Virginia Department of Health.
  • Respond to parental concerns and clinical questions about COVID-19 testing and symptoms as needed or required by on-site presence.
  • Provide support during COVID-19 testing to students who may require it (very young students, students with disabilities).
  • Coordinate logistics with the school administration and advise schools on implementing containment guidance in the case of a positive pool.
  • Assist in sharing best practices and resource needs across schools in the division with coordinator.
  • Coordinate with the Local Health Department and Virginia Department of Health Central Office, as needed.
  • Contribute to the division's COVID-19 response by assisting with any other duties as assigned.
  • Travel among schools within the division to provide knowledge, resources, and clinical expertise to school staff.
  • Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of Student and Employee Records.
  • Perform related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have a knowledge and understanding of the cause, transmission, and prevention of infectious diseases, specifically COVID-19, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) laws. Must have a knowledge of public health practices, communicable diseases, disease control, and epidemiologic methods and COVID-19 testing modalities. Must have a knowledge of basic pharmacology and the ability to use clinic/medical equipment. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to assess emergency situations and act accordingly; accurately maintain student medical records and prepare reports; establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, students, parents, physicians, subordinates and others contacted in the course of work; work onsite or effectively communicate with stakeholders virtually; adapt to rapidly changing priorities; and the ability to communicate with healthcare professionals and the public. Must have the ability to think analytically and have a strong attention to detail. Must have strong oral and written communication skills with healthcare professionals and the public. Must have strong computer skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited nursing program, licensed as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and in good standing with the Virginia Board of Nursing. Active Basic Life Support BLS CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers certification with hands-on training.

Preferred: Bachelor of Nursing Degree and/or a minimum of one to three (3) years nursing experience and experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care and triage, psychiatry, and/or a physician's office.

A comparable amount of training and experience maybe substituted for the minimum required qualifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional standing., running, stooping, and physical management that includes supporting individuals with impaired weight bearing or unsteady gaits, repositioning individuals in therapeutic equipment: including use of hydraulic lifts to a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance. Work involves moderate expose to infectious disease. Ability to lift over 50 pounds occasionally. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to travel to sites as required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and necessary screening to work in a school environment.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

This is a Temporary Employment Agreement (TEA) position. This position is eligible for Health Care benefits only.

Contract dates: November 1, 2021 - July 31, 2022.
