Under the direction of the Supervisor of Health Services, the Administrative Nurse Practitioner provides professional nursing services within the scope of practice of a licensed Nurse Practitioner. The incumbent will also provide follow-up for medically complex students in support of the Chief of the Office of School Health Policy, Services and Innovation. The Administrative Nurse Practitioner will support the Supervisor and Specialist of Health Services with the coordination of the School-Based Registered Nurse, other health care providers and physicians.

Brief Description
This is an ASASP Unit III position, 12 months - Pay Table 900 - Grade 30

Salary Range: $72,585 - $140,810

Detailed Description
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Reviews, updates and develops new or existing Prince George's County Board of Education school health policies and procedures;
  • Reviews Maryland school health laws being considered and/or passed by the Legislature in relation to PGCPS school health current or future school health policies and procedures;
  • Supports the management, maintenance, monitoring and implementation of immunization clinic;
  • Supports the Supervisor in the management and technical support to the School Based Health and Wellness Teams;
  • Coordinates specific student's medical care and preventive health care requirements with other health care providers, the local health department, physicians, parents, caregivers, guardians, Principals, social workers, guidance counselors, other individuals and agencies;
  • Assists with integration of students with complex medical needs into the educational system;
  • Provides guidance to school based nursing staff regarding students with private duty nurses;
  • Serves as a nursing consultant, clinical leader, public health advocate and resource person to school staff, parents, and students;
  • Provides technical assistance in the planning and implementation of programs for students with medical needs at the school level;
  • Provides consultation to educational teams with appropriate medical information and care plans to facilitate the educational program of students;
  • Assesses and screens students for preventive and health care needs;
  • Performs annual physicals, well child visits and immunizations for students as allowed within a Nurse Practitioner's scope of practice;
  • Supervisors a cohort of at least 10-30 nurses to ensure management and coordination of care in a health room at their assigned school;
  • Represents the Office of School Health on assigned committees;
  • Educates and directs school staff regarding medical issues related to students who may require emergency intervention;
  • Provides in-services to faculty that educate regarding health related issues;
  • Accompanies families, when necessary, to clinic and physician appointments or may make home visit as indicated;
  • Assists school staff with development of an individual teaching program for students and families to foster independent health care;
  • Establishes and maintain on-going communication with school based staff related to health issues;
  • Provides mentoring for school-based nursing staff and preceptorship to nursing students modeling professional nursing;
  • Utilizes various communication devices provided to all Nurse Managers (iPhone and laptop) to communicate field reports efficiently and expeditiously to senior leadership within OSHPSI; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Firm knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA);
  • Computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent organizational and management skills; and
  • Excellent oral, written communication, facilitation, interpersonal and collaboration skills.

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Nursing Practice (NP) degree required; Master's degree in Public Health or related held preferred, with a minimum of three (3) years administrative supervisory experience.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Possession of a current Maryland Nursing License, current CPR and First Aid Certification and an appropriate and valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    May supervise school based nursing staff in schools and centers.
