General Description:
The Director of Technology is responsible for supervisory and management work involving oversight of Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) wide area network infrastructure, servers, phones, website, personal computer, and help desk support function. Ensures employees have secure access to files, databases, and computer programs. Monitors incoming projects and balances workload among assigned staff. Trains staff on school division procedures for personal computer support. Performs administrative and supervisory work such as approving leave and time records, performing performance evaluations, counseling employees, preparing a budget, and preparing reports and other administrative records. This individual provides support to the accomplishment of the PCPS Strategic Plan and the PCPS Division Corrective Action Plan. The Director of Technology also supervises all assigned programs and activities as well as works collaboratively with school division staff, parents, and community members to achieve the division's mission and goals.

Essential Job Functions:
Plan, organize, and coordinate utilization of modern technology.
Recommend and develop operating policies and procedures to provide for efficient accomplishment of objectives.
Prepare and recommend complex design proposals for instructional networking and hardware configuration.
Prepare and manage the department budget.
Establish broad guidelines to serve as standards for the effective educational application of technology.
Plan, schedule, and review work of instructional and certified staff areas of instructional technology and media services.
Keep informed of new developments and trends in the field of technology/media services in order that innovations and new materials may be tried in the district.
Develop long-term plans for utilization of modern technology in education, e.g. audio-visual equipment, smart boards, computers, and other technology related resources for instructional implementation.
Work with superintendent, deputy superintendent, directors, and principals to expand and improve the educational value of technology equipment on hand and select for purchase of those materials that will attain the highest benefit within available funds.
Support all aspects of LAN (hardware and software) and telecommunications systems for voice/video including installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing problems.
Perform implementations and management of multiple protocols and multiple location networks, and is responsible for network operating systems, servers, and diagnostic utility software.
Provide back-up support for network and data security functions.
Provide division website management and design oversight.
Serve as a resource person to teachers, principals, directors, supervisors, architects, and outside agencies concerning all aspects of the technology/media program.
Supervise effective training for instructional and certified staff.
Prepare reports concerning the technology program.
Supervise the maintenance of computer equipment.
Supervise the installation of computer programs.
Supervise the development of computer applications.
Revise, evaluate, and recommend new administrative hardware and software.
Work with school division personnel (e.g. principals, data specialists, etc) to improve use of district adopted SIS in the development of the system schedules, data reports, and rostering activities which support other educational software applications.
Supervise the distribution of computer hardware and software in the schools.
Maintain an inventory of computer equipment and software.
Specify and procure technology equipment.
Examine technologies available or emerging and implementing the ones that best meet the needs of the school system.
Assume the leadership role in the development of the district's technology plan and work with the School Board and community in areas of technology.
Supervise and coordinate the work of technology services staff.
Perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business, or a related field, advanced certifications in network and azure/active directory environments, Windows 2016 Server, SQL server, Google Admin, Knowledge of backup systems software, 5 to 7 years practical experience to include supervisory experience of school district IT preferred, 2 - 3 years network administration experience with 500 or more users.

Education, Training and Experience Requirement:
Master's Degree in Administration or Education with concentration in Information Technology, Instructional Technology, for related technical or management fields preferred.
Prior experience in human resources within public education, business, or government preferred.
Demonstrated leadership ability and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with administrators, teachers, parents and community.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective technological principles, practices and trends.
At least five (5) years administrative/management experience preferred.
