The Media Arts program is a program within the Career and Technical Education Arts, Media, and Communication Career Cluster. Under the direction of the Principal, the Graphic Communications Teacher:
  • Facilitates student comprehension and application of concepts skills and behaviors that contributes to core academic and technical skill proficiency, culminating in an industry credential or certifications and/or post secondary credit;Provides a strong foundation in arts and communication with particular emphasis on computer coding, the design process, graphic and digital media communications, interactive technologies, and project development;Provides intermediate and advanced instruction applet and website development, computer coding and graphics, digital printing, digital media production and project management, three-dimensional models, two-dimensional animations, layered images, streaming media and web pages for portfolios.Provides simulated work environments (digital and real) for students to apply industry skills using Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, and PrintEd


Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provides foundational instruction in the design process, color theory, typography, two-dimensional design, and special compositionFosters and coordinates creative process for digital press production and interactive mediaUnderstands and applies effective research-based instructional strategies and best practices to ensure student academic and technical successParticipates as part of an interdisciplinary team to integrate core academic and CTE curriculum to produce academic content enhanced lessonsDevelops and maintains a business plan for the Media Arts lab and TV studioPrepares the annual Perkins grant application, develops bid specificationsAssists building administrator in obtaining Rhode Island Department of Education CTE Programapproval, NEASC accreditation, and/or industry accreditationParticipates in all district and school based professional development activitiesProvides rigorous and relevant instruction on approved hands on curriculum in the content area and general work place readiness through school-based, simulated work experiencesMaintains a learning lab classroom conducive to work place experiences that expose students to customer service, cost estimation for customers, creating job bags, pre-Web design, production, finishing and deliveryPrepare students for and participate in the annual Skills USA competitionsAdministers a variety of formative and summative student assessment toolsPrepares lessons that encourage and foster creativity and innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, and communicationDevelops and maintains positive and cooperative interactions and communications withparents, colleagues and communityTakes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, andfacilities.Maintains accurate and complete records as required by the district and state laws.Maintains and updates required industry certifications.Keeps current with emerging trends and standards National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies (NWCET), and the Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF)

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess successful background which insures capabilities to succeed as an instructor in the field of digital Media Arts.Minimum five (5) years of recent (within last seven (7) years) trade based or equivalent full-time employment directly related to video and digital media productionAdobe Creative Suite and videographer experience requiredPrintEd experience in digital press applications preferredRecord of involvement in professional organizations and community relations preferredBachelor of Fine Arts preferredExperience with digital audio and video recording, editing requiredTV studio production experience preferredDemonstrated proficiency in Graphic and Web Design, computer coding, using Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, PC and Mac based computer applications, Microsoft Office, applications, e-mail, Web applications, and Graphic Design industry-specific technologyWorking knowledge of TV studio fundamentals and Web productionPhysical ability to perform all necessary tasks related to implementing the programYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
