Primary Purpose/Function:

The GATE Specialist will implement into daily student instruction an appropriate educational curriculum that promotes complexity and higher-level thinking skills based on the State Standards. The teacher will create and maintain an educational atmosphere that encourages effective students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

  • Administers appropriate District curriculum which is aligned with standards
  • Provide, weekly, a minimum of 150 minutes of differentiated instruction to identified GATE students.
  • Screens and identifies potential GATE students at assigned campus(es) in order to provide appropriate services.
  • Develops and implements effective lesson plans
  • Has excellent classroom management/discipline skills ensuring safety at all times.
  • Works professionally with all stakeholders (administrators, teachers, support staff and parents)
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and District policy.
  • Participates in other duties and activities related to the position, as assigned.


POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
  1. Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary classroom
  2. Provide appropriate curriculum/instruction to identified GATE students in a pull out model
  3. Provide, a weekly differentiated instruction to identified GATE students
  4. Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members
  5. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives in order to meet the needs of all students
  6. Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals
  7. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
  8. Plan, organize, and conduct staff development/training meeting the needs of assigned campus(es).
  9. Provide appropriate support to general education teachers including modeling lessons, observing students, and assisting in the referral process, identification, and assessment of GATE students
  10. Participate as an active member with other faculty and staff
  11. Maintain and improve professional competence
  12. Communicate effectively both written and orally

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Training:

An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must posses or be able to acquire by time of appointment to the position, a teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education
