SCSD is seeking summer curriculum writers to help design and refine K-2 Integrated Humanities Units and 3-5 Humanities units for use in the 2021-2022 school year. This position is an exciting opportunity for individuals who:

- Have proven deep expertise in literacy and high-leverage practices that reflect standards-aligned instruction
- Understand the backward-design process
REPORTS TO: Director of English Language Arts, Supervisor of Social Studies, and Supervisor of Science and Technology.

- Ability to manage complex tasks and tight deadlines independently and proactively
- Keen eye for detail and ability to identify potential challenges and problem-solve
- Knowledge of text complexity & qualities of high-quality text selection
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to collaborate, especially in virtual environments
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
This position will include:
- Participating in a kickoff orientation to understand the scope and tasks for the curriculum writing team
- Providing feedback on unit prototypes
- Refining unit materials and resources to align with key design standards
- Collaborating with other curriculum writers to build unit plans, teacher materials, and supplemental resources, while considering literacy skills to be addressed, cultural responsiveness, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools (preferred)
- Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
- Minimum of two years' successful classroom teaching experience (preferred)
- Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
- All candidates must possess New York State teacher certification in their subject area, or qualify to obtain it by the first date of employment. This requires at least a Bachelor's degree. Licensed teachers from other states may qualify for reciprocity.
- Please note that New York State requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 for certification, and one hired, this proof will be kept on file in the Office of Human Resources.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:
- This position would begin in July 2021 and potentially extend through the early part of the school year, working between 5-15 hours a week. Teachers will be paid the current Unit 1 extension rate for hours beyond the normal workday.
